Course Two

ITC Award in Outdoor First Aid and Incident Management

If you work or play in some of the more remote and rural parts of the UK this qualification is designed to meet your needs. It assumes you are more than 30 minutes away from immediate assistance and for those of you with Outdoor national Governing Body Instructor Awards, this is likely to be the minimum First Aid requirement you need to maintain your licence.

This course also meets the requirements for the Institute for Outdoor Learning Statement of Good Practice for Outdoor First Aid Training at Band that’s good!

Topics include how to manage an incident when it happens, roles and responsibilities of a first aider, how to deal with a collapsed casualty (and whether they are breathing effectively or not), choking, bleeding, shock and seizures. Also included is major illness, injuries to the torso and limbs and environmental effects. Scenarios are outdoor specific and include incident management, looking after a casualty for some hours, boot and helmet removal and first aid kit suggestions.

The nitty gritty there is a minimum 12 – 16 hour instructor contact time with a 1:12 instructor ratio. The course can be delivered over multiple days but individual sessions must be 2 hours long or more and completed within a set time period. The certificate is valid for 3 years.

Assessment by continual observation throughout the course.

Other Standard Courses Include

First Aid for Sport, Exercise and Fitness (this is ideal for Young Coaches)

Basic Life Support and the Use of an Automated External Defibrillator

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and the Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
